Friends sitting on a sunny dock, toasting one another

When living in Towers at Rincon luxury apartments in San Francisco or any of the other amazing places to live in this wonderful city, you may get tired of always spending your hard earned money to entertain yourself. Every once in a while, you want to do something that’s fun, exciting, and you guessed it… Free!

Everybody always goes on about how expensive San Francisco is so you may not think it’s possible to do anything for free in this exciting city. But believe it or not, it’s certainly possible to have fun for free this summer in San Francisco if you put your mind to it, pay attention, and use some of the suggestions we’re sharing with you today.

At the end of the day, coming up with free things to do in San Francisco is amusing, entertaining, and a great way to spend your time off from work. You can either enjoy these experiences by yourself, with your kids and spouse, or with your friends or family members. It’s really up to you.

With that said, let’s take a look at some of the best free things to do in San Francisco this summer. We’ll only share the most fun, entertaining, and exciting recommendations for you to experience.

Hiking

As a resident living in San Francisco, one of the best free fun summer activities is to go hiking. There are a few options to take advantage of, it’s completely free, and you get to enjoy some time away from the city while out in nature.

If you are going to consider hiking as a viable option, we would like to recommend two potential places to go to get your hike on. First, one excellent option is called Corona Heights. This beautiful park provides hikers with one of the most gorgeous views of San Francisco that you’ll ever see. But you don’t want to spend too much time looking at the long view of San Francisco because there are beautiful wildflowers and gorgeous grasslands for you to enjoy right in front of your very eyes.

The second option we would like to recommend is called Mount Sutro. This is a beautiful place to visit if you’re trying to get back in nature while removing yourself from the city. It’s a 61 acre ecological wonderland. This reserve is safe, fun, friendly and it’s right in the heart of San Francisco so you can’t miss it.

All in all, hiking is a wonderful way to get exercise, experience nature, forget about your troubles for a while, and do something fun for free. You can certainly hike in our recommended locations during the summertime or you may want to hike during some of the other seasons as well. The choice is yours so we’ll leave it up to you.

Experience the View from the Golden Gate Bridge

Have you ever wanted to see what San Francisco looked like from the Golden Gate Bridge? Sure, you probably see it all the time while in a car, but actually standing on the bridge and looking out over the water is an amazing sight to behold. And it’s something you can do at any time this summer and it’s completely free.

If you are ready to go for this experience on the Golden Gate Bridge, we recommend either walking or riding your bicycle over the bridge. This is a wonderful way to get exercise, experience some fresh air, and get out of your house and off of your couch for a little while.

So many of us spend all day in an office sitting in a chair, only to come home and sit on our couch and watch TV at night. It’s time to break the cycle, spend some time walking or cycling over the Golden Gate Bridge, and enjoy this fun, free experience by yourself, with friends, with family members, or with nature itself.

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass

Although this event doesn’t take place until October 6 through the 8TH of 2017, and summer is technically over for about 2 weeks at that point, it seemed a shame not to mention this awesome event. Why? Because it’s a free concert in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco and you don’t have to pay a penny to enjoy the amazing entertainment, live atmosphere, and the great crowds.

This year, this free gathering will feature more than 100 musical talents over a three day stretch. It would be too time-consuming the name all of the acts performing this year, so we’re going to avoid that and recommend you check out their website. But to help you get a taste of the kind of musical flavor playing at this event, we’d like to share the names of a few of our favorite acts including: Jamestown Revival, Delta Rae, Anna McClellan, Jim James, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Steve Earle & The Dukes, Cindy Lauper, Chris Isaak, Kris Kristofferson, The Mother Hips, Robyn Hitchcock, Cake, Dropkick Murphys, John Paul White, and many more.

As you can see, this is not some cheap event that nobody wants to go to. There are seriously some big names performing over the three days that this concert takes place and you’re bound to have an excellent time listening to great music while dancing around, singing, and having a good old time.

Sailing

You might be thinking it’s impossible to go sailing for free. Guess what? You’d be 100% wrong in San Francisco!

Once a month, the Cal Sailing Club makes it possible for people living in the Bay area to go sailing for free. They are kind enough to let people sail on their dinghies and keelboats on a specific day during the month and they do not charge anything for this opportunity.

The great thing about this club is they want people to have fun. They have an entire fleet of dinghies and keelboats and they open them up to the public without expecting anything in return. So if you ever wanted to go sailing, now’s your opportunity to do it for free in fog city.
