Even if you don’t live in the fabulous downtown studio apartments in San Francisco, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of Pier 39 and thought about heading over there for a good time. Can’t say we blame you either, because the pier is packed with all sorts of wonders to see and experience. No sense going in blind, though, so instead of just rushing over there and winging it, take some time to read ahead, as we list out some of the awesome adventures you can get into over at Pier 39.

Hang Out With the Sea Lions

If there’s one thing that’s inexorably linked with Pier 39, it’s those beautiful sea Lions. They’ve called the pier their home for years, and you can often find them hanging loose and relaxing near the back end. While you probably don’t want to get close enough to touch them (nor would you be allowed to), you can view them from a safe distance, and snap a few photographs to remember them by.

Grab a Bite to Eat

You’re liable to build up an appetite while exploring the pier, so be sure to make some time for a meal. There are plenty of amazing restaurants in and around the area, so you’ve got options to pick from. For a treat that’s classically Pier 39, though, you might want to consider heading over to the Boudin Bakery for some clam chowder. You won’t be disappointed.

Take a Cruise

Few trips to the water are complete without a bit of time spent on the water, and when you head to Pier 39 that is most definitely an option. There are all sorts of boats and watercraft ready to take you out into the bay, whether you just want to cruise the waters and see the sights, or try something fancy like a meal on the water. Either way, you’ll be treated to the lovely scenery of San Francisco like you’ve never seen it before.

Check Out The Aquarium

Being so close to the water, there should be little surprise that Pier 39 has an aquarium. The Aquarium of the Bay is the place to check out all kinds of cool exhibits pertaining to marine life, and to learn more about the delicate ecosystems of the water. There are over 20,000 animals contained within its walls, so prepare for an extended time exploring those exhibits and checking out what sort of wonders lie beneath the waves of the San Francisco Bay.
